  • Tasted double blind. This was the weakest among the four Pinots but in no way weak. It needed time to come out of its shell and release all the gorgeous Amoureuses fruit and seductiveness but overall showed less well-defined than the other wines. It already showed some promising tertiary notes which went well with the red fruit core. Very good but without exceptionalism.

TN: Light and airy nose, mushrooms, tobacco. On the palate fresh, round, fine and elegant. Not hyper complex, but showing some nice tertiary notes of mushrooms, tobacco, earthy notes, dark red fruit, and spices. With time more and more bright red fruit. A bit mush and not that well defined. Fine tannins, good freshness, elegant and light, missing a bit of oomph and mid palate density.

Decanting: This neesd some air. I would go with an hour+ in the decanter.

  • Tasted 2 nights ago. Lovely fragrance, no oak apparent. Light in the mouth, complex and good depth. Long, crisp finish. An excellent bottle.

  • Chambolle 1er (Chicago): Decanted for a couple of hours, poured back into bottle and tasted for several hours after decanting. Rather firm and dense without much nuance. The quality is there. Last glass was the most giving, but even that wasn't great. Needs 10+ years.

  • Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Virtual Tasting (Planet Earth): Opened and decanted at 3 PM, first tasted at 6:30 Still slightly reductive when first tasted, which took a good 30 minutes in glass to dissipate. Even then, still backward for another hour+, but this slowly, grudgingly opened up and softened nicely by 9 PM. At that point, plenty of red berry and orange peel came through with meaty, fully savory spice. Very long finish. So...both patience and air are required.

  • Tasted blind – Lifted nose of bright red cherry, musky raspberries with bright new oak, resembles Musigny but slightly lighter weight, could it be the declassified Musigny from de Vogue? De Vogue Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru? 2010? (90/100)
