Retail $55. From way back when I have been a fan of Flowers. Out on the extreme Sonoma Coast, the wines have always been stellar and the vibe, well, "fantastic." The winery was sold, there was a scandal, the wines continued to be "baller." OK. I bought this wine over a decade ago at the winery, and, well. I held on to it for far too long. Or not. Maybe. Just a touch of golden in the glass, with loads of peach and lemon on the nose. The palate is near perfectly balanced between fruit, acidity, and depth. Yowza. And giddy-up. Whoa. thedrunkencyclist.com

An expressive coastal chardonnay, showing depth and complexity at eleven years. Deep golden color, with a nose of citrus, vanilla, caramel, and a hint of oak. Nicely concentrated palette of savory honey, vanilla and hazelnuts. Attractively viscous mouthfeel is balanced superbly with a clean, vibrant acidity. Medium finish that lingers with citrus and earth. Slow-ox'd for four hours, then improved in the glass throughout the evening, suggesting time ahead for this wine.

Even better on day two. Upon first taste, you feel the structure and the acidity that this great Chardonnay from a prime vineyard had. Subtle hints of vanilla with some lemon/citrus elements. Very faint oak. On day two, it picked up weight and some nice viscosity but still had the same flavor profile. And the finish was as long or longer than on day one.

An unobtrusive, almost anodyne chardonnay. Neither particularly buttery, oaky. citrussy nor minerally. It's not committing to anything at all. A non-wine drinker's wine? Tried it over two nights and the second night (had it with salmon) it picked up a somewhat unpleasant, though faint, metallic taste. Really poor value at $58 a bottle.

Took a while to open up, but then some caramel flavors come through.
