Traipsing through Paris; 12/16/2011-12/20/2011 (Paris, France): A lovely Beaujolais. As good as 2009 Thevenet Morgon served together was, I actually enjoyed this a bit more. It had a beautiful nose. Rather more subtly fruited than the Morgon, it showed a touch of dried earth, slightly dried flowers and a bit of toast undergirding floaty cherry accents. Lovely stuff. The palate was absolutely delicious too, with bits of spice and earth running alongside a core of high-toned, super pure morello cherries, all perfectly balanced and wonderfully integrated with lick of citrus on the finish. Deliciously fresh and blessed with a burgeoning complexity, I loved this wine. While it did not have the midpalate depth of breadth of flavours of the 2009 Morgon, it was a lot readier and more than made up for lack of power with its lovely balance, poise and energy.

Illuminating Beaujolais Tasting-2007 to 2009 (Terroir, San Francisco): Lighter color. This shares the more vegetal rather than fruit aromas with the 2008 Foillard. Black fruit, not overly tart. We all agreed that this was the most bland, least interesting wine in this line up.

Very perfumed and floral; a touch lactic on the nose, but that blows off to reveal very pure bitter cherry fruit. Nice tannins and acids, but just a touch hollow on the mid-palate.

(Guy Breton Régnié) Light medium red color with pale meniscus; a little oxidized, tart red berry, mushroom nose; tart red berry, cranberry palate; medium finish

Quick Impressions of a Slew of Beaujolais (Arlequin Wine Merchant, San Francisco): Light color. Herbal and earthy with little fruit. A typical 2008 in my experience.
