18c; no decant; inky purple; nose of wet earth, ripe plums, pepper, thyme; soft tannins, rich fruit, fading acidity; rich, ripe plums, chocolate, caramel, candy apple; fading, but quite drinkable (but a sad QPR (at least I didn't pay $60 for it). 17

This is a big, beautiful wine that I've had several times but not for a while. It was drinkable after an hour this time, but the last time (12-08) it took all day for it to loosen up.
There's a rich funk on the nose. The palate has rich, dark, black currant fruit, still-strong tannin, but lush and an herbal quality with garrique and menthol. I don't taste a lot of Montepulciano like this. This drinks like some Italian Cabernet does, but a little darker and gamey.

Wineflock - Varietal Exploration (Jim's): Group #5, My #1 - Opaque red color. Medium/full nose of clean black cherry cough drop - Luddens! Nice rich black fruit on the palate with a balanced kiss of sweet and good complexity. Nice.

10 Wines, 10 Varietals, Double Blind ("Chateau La Grange" - La Grange IL): Double blind tasting. Really nice black fruit with good spice but this seemed a little too sweet and stylized. Again I had no idea what varietal this could be.
