  • Not too bad on the roasted side for an '03. There's a trace but it doesn't overpower. What's interesting in this fruit bomb is the apparent lack of nebbiolo, which has either been so plumped up by the vintage that it's unrecongizable to me or the bottle was mislabeled. In fact, I had to recheck the label to make sure it said nebbiolo and not just Langhe so we'd know it didn't have more than 50% barbera, which is what this tastes like to me. After being opened for an hour, it starts to show some nebbiolo-like character with a bitter rose and tarry note in the nose, but I would have had no chance blind. In fairness, now that it's been open for two hours it's starting to taste something like over-ripe but not burned nebbiolo, which must make this a winner in 2003.
