  • Deep, dark rich fruit here, no trace of rusticity or maturity beyond secondary qualities. Excellent! 92+

  • A gorgeous nose of rose petals, gingerbread, sweet earth and spiced plum. It is elegant, full, textured and perfectly balanced. There’s an ethereal quality to the wine, with each sip revealing a different, subtle nuance.

  • Recently acquired from an imported French cellar. Depressed cork, 2.5 cm. ullage. Pale at first, it gained saturation in the glass. Right after opening, immediate scent of sweet muddled red fruit. It took a bit of time for some stray acidity to integrate, but once it did, this was mellow, balanced, and it developed beautiful natural sweetness and sap. Over time, some stemmy green elements came out, but the 40+ year old dark red fruit hung in there admirably for over 2 hours. Really in quite remarkable shape for its age and not yet autumnal. I haven't had much 1978 Burgundy recently, but this wine from a middling producer (at that time) showcases the balance, quality of fruit, and staying power of the wines. This far exceeded my expectations and provided delightful drinking tonight.
