  • Identifying the vintage would have been impossible (tasted blind); from the color, you could tell that the wine indeed showed signs of age. It came from a cellar where it had been stored in the same place since its purchase! What truly blew me away was the nose. Honestly, for a vintage like 1977, where I presumed there wasn't much good left to drink today, this was genuinely astounding. The nose revealed truffle aromas that intensified the longer you smelled it! But also, the damp undergrowth of a forest; the nose was complex and exhibited an extremely refined quality. On the flip side, the taste didn't quite align with the nose. The palate wasn't outdated but had lost some of its power and discovery, being relatively linear, but certainly not bad. The wine might fall a bit flat with food, but in a tasting, 1977 was truly a revelation!
