Made a crucial error here and didn't open bottle /decant for 3-4 hours before drinking. Hadn't realised that Spanish wine of this age (unlike French) requires a long decant. Whilst the people at Vega didn't recommend decanting wines from 70s/80s, this apparently does require a lot more time. Even over the 2 hours at lunch it improved significantly but was still a long way from what we were hoping for. better review next time with correct bottle prep
