Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • This was en magnum, but an ullage 11cm from the base of the cork. Source was an old Parisian cellar where the wines had lay undisturbed since the 1950's or earlier. The wine looks yellow gold colored. There is light sediment in the bottle. No bubbles, but for tasting it was given the "kiss of life" with a NV. It smells like almond, mineral, butterscotch, diacetyl (butter), honey and sherry; a slight hint of maderisation. It tastes like mineral, honey and butterscotch with dried apricots. The body is medium/full. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes very long with a satisfying mouth filling flavour. The wine has high acidity. This is the epitome of great champagne; how can I go back to NV now :(
