  • A beautiful complex nose with aromas of strawberries, red cherries, tobacco, cedar, vanilla, figs, leather, spices and some coffee,

Medium mouthfeel, medium plus acidity, medium plus intensity, medium level of velvety, fine grained an really mature tannins. A really lingering finish.

This is so balanced, nothing out of place. The acidity is backing up the nicely consentrated fruit. A very complex wine with both primary, secondary and tertiary characteristics, and readily identifiable aromas.
    A very typical mature Rioja.
Again and again mature Riojas continue to impress me. And this is not even a high end wine. Bravo!

Drinking beautifully now, but this can still last another decade if stored correctly.

  • This bottle, sourced from Chambers, was incredible. For me, at a peak point on the aging curve, with still a good deal of (mature) fruit to give, but lots of secondary aromas -- pretty quintessential Rioja right here. Went out and bought some more 81s!
