Really spectacular wine on display, remarkably fresh for its age, disgorged 2018. Oxidative, but not nearly as much as the 90 Grand Annee served alongside.

Much better than the last bottle in 750ml format. Darkened up in the glass and needed time to open up before it got better. I would suggest leaving it open and closer to cool room temperature to get it at best. This was very much a 1985 style. Rich, ripe, a bit of lees. Apple skin. Bitter finish.

A little fusty and stinky upon opening- not in a sharp or sulfured way but more of a vaguely funky aroma like a very ripe soft cheese. I’ve had a lot of old wines but I’ve never really experienced that before. There was also a little oxidative note. Both of these faded a bit with air. On the palate there was lemony, quite young fruit combined with a touch of fino sherry and that cheesy, leesy note. A very good wine.

I had this out of magnum at a Lanson Vintage Collection tasting a few months ago, and there it showed a nice bright citrus flavor with a bit of smokiness. Just had again in 750 ml, and although still very good it didn't measure up to the magnum. Still had nice acid and citrus brightness, with the leesy flavors showing and adding depth, but it also showed a faint butterscotch on the finish. Light apple and honeysuckle as well. This is fully ready to drink in 750 format and score is for 750 format.
