Thursday hangout at Domaine (Chicago, IL): Extremely potent green menthol and pyrazine notes on the nose. Slightly plummy black fruit as well. On the palate, this is quite resolved and pleasantly silky in texture, with a distinct and powerful menthol note again. An excellent showing for a less-renowned vintage.

At 28 years, would it have survived? Yes, and nicely with blackberry and plum tones, cedar tones and a hint of pencil shavings on nose. The palate is claret weight, but the fruit is distinctly New World. Some tannic astringency is still present on the finish, plus a touch of black prune. With Thanksgiving dinner the tannins were easily balanced by the traditional cuisine. I did enjoy this wine but I don’t know that it will get much better than it is now.

Geez, this is so darn good in a classic Claret style. Maturing fruit that still has richness and density. Fruit is infused with wet cedar, tobacco and bell pepper. Long with great depth and delineation. Terrific. In a great zone, and should hold for at least a decade.

Amazing that this wine is still drinking so well. It is fading so I would drink what I have. Berries, cedar and bell pepper. Pleasant and very enjoyable.

This has aged well but is a little too tart on the finish
