  • I had difficulty putting a rating on this bottle because it's just simply delicious, with such a silky palate and satisfyingly lingering finish that only a well-aged grand cru juice can deliver. I believe that the wine is in its early drinking window because the predominantly cassis fruit bouquet seems very primary and in the palate it's a ripe juicy cherry. There are very appealing herbal spice notes blending with the scent of a rose in full bloom; just a hint of sous-bois and mountain air that hints at its 2-decades plus age but there is a long life ahead for sure. It's so soft and delicious now that no harm in opening a few bottles now. A wine of beauty and joy!

  • i loved this wine. It had a wonderful fruit driven, dark fruit nose leading to dark fruit, and wet earth flavors on the palate. Didn't have the intensity of the '07 Roumier, but was much more elegant and pure.

  • A 1964 birthday Celebration (Sepia - Chicago IL): Open a couple of hours before serving. Mature red and black fruit on nose and palate with moderate savory spice. Moderate concentration and nuance to me, but others enjoyed this more than I did tonight.

  • Leftovers from the Confrerie: Sweet floral stewed nose. More expressive than the La Romanee. Lots of dirt , earth with flowers mixed in. Moist dust, fresh floral berries, red raspberries, juicier than the La Romanee. Very lively and vibrant . However, the taint of 98 shows more on this than the La Romanee. Bitter herb finish.

  • Extravagant casual Friday dinner (Imperial Treasure Nan Nei, Suntec City): This bottle had picked up a bit, but not quite as much as the way the La Romanee was in better shape than its predecessor the night before. Still though, a very nice wine. Intoxicating nose. Gorgeous, with deep loamy earth smells, mineral, perfumed flowers, kirsch, stewed cherries and some damp wood and a touch of sour plum powder. Lush, rich and heady. With time, a bloody, iron-rich seam started emerging. The palate did not quite have the depth or breadth, or quite the class of the La Romanee, but it was very attractive still. Super-fresh and juicy, with high-toned red fruit - cherries, raspberries, redcurrants - prickly minerality, all clean, energetic and lively, with a good deal of strength and a nice sense of complexity too. Finish was the only part that was not great. It thinned out a little, got slightly lean for a Bonnes Mares, with damp wood showing alongside orange peel. Should get better with time though - this is still really young.
