Opened 4 hours before dinner and my initial observations were that the bottle fill was good, cork was in good shape, and the color of the wine is great. The wine showed autumnal notes with savory tones of black licorice, worn leather, and carmelized nuts. Fruit slowly emerged with subtle fruitcake notes, a flutter of prettiness, dark frutti di bosco, and forest floor. Beautifully fresh, the wine remains elegant, tannins are fully integrated and super fine. This wine was delicate, nuanced and a pleasure to drink. Like looking into the past, this wine took me back a generation, to share old stories of a family dedicated to this unique and beautiful piece of earth.

This wine was ok, but did not have the power or depth of flavor that I have come to expect from Barolos of this age. The color was dark red. There were no signs of oxidation. The cork crumbled some when the bottle was opened. There was minimal bouquet. The wine was decanted and drunk over several hours. It did develop some but for the most part remained closed.
