This was a restrained but pleasing effort. Red fruit and tobacco in the nose gave way to a nice balanced palate of fruit and spice and savory, but nice balance and acidity that benefitted from the tomato sauce. Eat with Italian themed high acid food, as it was meant to be.
Light ruby red. I found this to be much better than other tasting notes would indicate, perhaps because age has subdued the fruit and alcohol. Very appealing red cherry nose and spices. Sweet tannins, leather moderately heavy minerality and a stong acid backbone help bring this big Chianti into balance and was a superb match with a rich dish of meatballs. (Definitely a food only wine). Drinking fine now, but it will get better with some more age. 15% abv, but not a hot wine.
