Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 86.8 pts. and median of 88 pts. in 9 notes)

Tasted by winelovr2001 on 12/27/2009 & rated 88 points: A nice bottle of bubbly, showing green apple, lemon peal, with decent complexity. I wouldn't say it was the most profound sparkler of all time, but very nice indeed. (117 views)

Tasted by princeton on 1/26/2009: Grapefruit and light green apple. Dry and crisp with pleasing tinges of acidity. In all, fine and good for a $18 domestic. At odds with the producer's notes (rose pedal? none. "Further layers reveal crisp yet creamy qualities" creamy? creamy? are you kidding? "touches of vanilla and melon," vinalla? none. (652 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 1/17/2009 & rated 88 points: From magnum. Pale color. Subtle citrus and mineral notes. Flavors of apple and pear, with a nice citrus tone on the finish. I thought this was Domaine Carneros. (364 views)

Tasted by konquest on 6/23/2008 & rated 84 points: Bien levuré. Bulles un peu trop agressives.

Avec un bon repas, en agréable compagnie. Probablement noté un peu trop haut... mais bon, l'ambiance compense pas mal...! (780 views)
Tasted by cheron98 on 1/1/2008 & rated 87 points: Upon uncorking the bottle, the smell was beautiful - pungeant and crisp. The taste was a little sharp for me, but still much smoother than I have had from other sparklers in the past. The color was beautifully golden in the glass, with a plethora of bubbles catching the light perfectly. A wonderful way to start the new year! (1120 views)
Tasted by yhn on 1/1/2008 & rated 78 points: Tastes like it's made from Chasselas. Heavy on the palate - very Limoux-like - with bitter grapefruit and lemon. Large bead. Cheap crap. (1178 views)
Tasted by ELecompte on 12/23/2006 & rated 90 points: Drank during a tasting. (1574 views)

Definition of "sparkling wine" at Wikipedia
The typical champagne blend is of three grapes - Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier. Wines labeled as 'Blanc de Blancs' are by definition all Chardonnay, and wines labeled as 'Blanc de Noirs' contain Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier or both in the blend.

There are how ever three addtional grape varieties planted (Arbane, Petit Meslier and Pinot Blanc) and used in Champagne, they could be called legacy grapes and do not represent significant portion of the grapes used (<0.01%?). It is not permitted to plant more of these varieties.

California Wines (Wine Institute of California)

California is one of the most diverse wine regions in the world, with almost 100 grape varieties grown in almost 10 viticultural areas, including dozens of different microclimates and soil types, as well as a very individualistic set of winemakers, many with international experience, which adds to and deepens that diversity.
