[Brought to dinner with Chris & Meredith. Decanted at 2pm. Back in the bottle at 4pm. Consumed from 8:30 to 10:30.] Surprisingly backward and youthful. It needed at least an hour in the glass to begin to resolve. Plenty of well-balanced tannin and fruit so typical of 1989. Lots of licorice, tar, and black cherry. Wait another 10 years or give it a long decant. Note this was served with a big juicy steak!

Darker in color than the other wines tonight. Some nice spice and cocoa, with good textural density, tar, roses, and some more eucalyptus. this is impressive an dvery well made, but in the context of the other wines tonight, it loses a bit of the complexity and depth, maybe the bottling, may be the wood. Still very enjoyable. 90 pts

I'm propably be'in too harsh with 88 points, but Batasiolo 1989 barolo was better in face-to-face comparison. Elio Altare is great wine, but hair too oaky and sweet with syrap and cherry -elemets to wear the golden crown.

(Elio Altare Barolo) Group's #8 (my #6) – 143 pts.; 2, 2, 1, 10 – a bit of TCA on the nose, along with sweet red fruit; a little TCA on the palate too, along with tobacco, tart red fruit. with tomato on edges; medium-plus tart tomatoey red fruit finish 91+ pts. (I usually don't rate a wine that appears to have TCA, but there was enough there to get a sense of the wine, I thought.)

Bearserkerfest Night 1-Piedmont Table (Blue Star Wine Bistro, Chicago IL): Something was off with this bottle. It seemed like there were VA problems as the nose was disjointed and on the palate it was all acid.
