Opened and decanted for an ½ hour. Appearance: very dark purple in color, could not even see my fingers through the wine. Aroma: On the nose I picked up cherries, black pepper oak, and a hint of wet leather and alcohol or nail polish remover. Taste: Cherries, blackberries and oak. Dry with a high level of acidity and a high tannin structure. Finish was long and the texture was chewy. Overall this wine was okay and was okay with Pizza. I felt that this wine actually overpowered the Pizza and would probably pair better with hearty Italian dishes where the acidity of the tomato sauce would compliment the wine. This wine should be decanted for at least 3 hours. I am very interested to see how the remaining wine tastes tomorrow. This was an excellent QPR at $8.99.
