The 1982 Palmer for me is a wine that is on its fully maturity plateau for some time already with this last 2-3 bottles showing signs of slightly past it's prime. Very fine and elegant nose beautiful tertiary, cedar, a slight mint/eucalyptus touch, but such an inviting floral characteristic with violets, roses that in my opinion is a registered mark from great Palmer. The palate is very fine, delicate, completely balanced offering an outstanding classy wine, but time to drink!
The bouquet of this wine is really fabulous and complex with beautiful oak, cedar, cigar box, sweet spices, autumn impressions and some truffle. On the palate beautifully soft with still some good red fruits, coffee and autumn impressions. All very refined, smooth and integrated. Good acidity and a touch of pleasant sweetness. Completely soft and integrated tannin which is showing a bit of age and is a bit drying, but that doesn’t really bother me because everything is so harmonious , complex and refined. Completely ready now and probably wise not to wait much longer. (However a few years more at this age, if kept in a perfect cellar, will most likely not hurt either.)

(Château Palmer) Bricked medium red color with pale meniscus; slightly maderized, tobacco, vegetal nose; lean, smoky, tobacco, tart cassis palate, with chewy, firm tannins; medium finish 87+ pts. (not very giving at this point, and already on the downhill slide, at least from this particular bottle)
(Chateau Palmer Margaux) This is 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot. There is just a moderate tawny tinge to this wine. The nose shouts class, with a combination of floral elegance and power, together with lots of blackcurrant fruit with a gravel, mineral and cordite edge. Gorgeous texture on the palate, amazing structure, and beautifully balanced. Lots of tarry yet fine fruit. A harmonious wine, which undoubtedly has years ahead of it. I felt the combination of elegance with power should have made this wine easy to identify blind.
