Decanted 3 hours and ran thru venturi 3 times. This bottle was not as enjoyable as our last one. On the youthful sweet side with unbalanced alcohol. This will benefit from a few more years in the bottle.
Followed for two days open. Fairly ready from the get-go and just became a little rounder and less candied with air. Color is a rusty cranberry red, about 70% saturated. Clear and slow legs, no sediment. Sweet aromas; tobacco, red fruits, cassis, licorice along with more oak notes than I remember in previous bottles. Palate is very smooth but also heavier in oak influence than I expected. Maybe a little too obvious, but tasty nonetheless. Overnight, it integrated somewhat and I did like the way it was drinking on day 2. Very easy and approachable to enjoy now. Worked really nice with lamb vindaloo. 5+11+15+8 = 89
Popped and poured. Nose of black currant, bright cherry, spicy oak. On the palate, full bodied with currants, blackberry, and spice. Finish is a little unbalanced by alcohol, which seemed to peek out a little more on this particular bottle. Drink over the next 5 years.
