Just starting to show secondary aromas and flavors. A mild sediment on decant. 2 hours air later and the wine is soft but expressive. Tannins have become incredibly silky textured. The fruit isn't as hot as earlier bottles and the oaky background has backed off. Drinking great now but has at least another couple years of improvement left. Best Zin of the new year!
Very enjoyable. A big wine, but I think they *might* have decided to leave a (small) bit of RS instead of letting the alc spike too high. Smooth tasty fruit, with a bit of a sweet edge. Nice tannins and reasonable acidity. Remarkably well balanced for the style
Lovely Zin handicapped by some oxidized fruit. Bright red cherry, appealing forest mushroom, a silky mid palate do their best to compete against the coarser oxidized fruit, but only partially succeed. Absent this flaw, at least an 89. Drink now.
I wish Ridge and the U.S. wine industry would move faster toward stelvin screw caps for wines that will be marketed across the continent and globe and that most consumers will drink within a few years of purchase. If one insists on corks, they should be long, and of top quality.
