Thursday Walk Around Tasting of California Wines (WineStyles Columbia, SC): This is real Chardonnay. They did not pay attention to PC crowd, and made a winemaker's Chardonnay. I wish more people would try this instead of turning up their noses. Generally, this is what Chardonnay is supposed to taste like. They captured the peachy, pineapple, citrus fruit profile in an upfront way. They brought a medium plus bodied mouth feel that is rich and creamy, without being overblown. There is a nice touch of those non fruit, spicy flavors in the background, but still fruit is the dominant flavor. There is some oak structure, which is just fine. Ripe Chardonnay craves some oak, and the vanilla only compliments the fruit and leesy flavors, and helps it age if you so desire. The finish is refreshing with almost perfect acid, some citrus and honey.

Solid wine with a nose & palate of pineapples, baked apples, and toasty, spicy oak. Hints of vanilla as well. The oak adds nice structure to the wine without dominating. Acidity high enough to drink well on it's own or paired with food, and 13.5% abv keeps it from being flabby. Overall: B.

Peach, citrus. Nice balance and acidity. Oak is a bit hiding, but present.
