  • I really liked the wines that John Clews produced while winemaker at Clos Du Val. His style of a well balanced, low alcohol wine, (13.5 %) makes it easy to pair with anything you have for dinner. The fruit is still packing a good punch and the flavors excite your palate. An enjoyable Cab that is holding up very well.

  • This is in a really great place right now - drank last night after a 2.5 hour decant and enjoyed with a NY strip steak. Silky texture, lush fruit on the palate along with secondary characteristics, and a good finish. Nose was more powerful upon opening than after decant but still quite good. I am very glad I ordered more recently!

  • Still drinkable but definitely on a steep downward slope.

  • shared with pat at selkirk manor to celebrate the end of the work week. when i last tasted this wine on 3/2/2018 i suggested further longevity of one to two years. no recent notes from others for this wine so i had to crack one to see what is going on. i have been a fan of this producer since the 1970's. while they may have had some lean years (which i never tasted personally), i continue to maintain brand loyalty and to feel that parker's harsh criticism, particularly of this vintage, is unwarranted. tonite, i found the wine to continue to be most enjoyable. generous nose. good varietal typicity. medium weight. well balanced. five second finish. it is true that this vintage is made in a lighter style than those from previous decades. nevertheless, it performs above its price point. the wine is fully mature. the time to enjoy it is now. this was somewhat of an impulse pull from the cellar. wish i had done a vertical with some more recent vintages that i have in the cellar. will have to do a retrospective study. perhaps a comparison with the 2013 vintage which received high scores from galloni will be the proof of the pudding.
