1993 survey, or filling a hole with Chave (Chicago, IL): #28-94, 8% abv. Raise a glass to the good Doctor Bonnelli, from whose cellar so many of my own rieslings come. This bottle, unlike the last, was mercifully not corked, and we were in business. A serious bottle of riesling that wowed the table. Intense gasoline nose (or is it the sponti?) coupled with honeyed apricots. The palate is a continuation of that, with distinct and powerful botrytis notes. Almost oily in texture, but the acidity somehow cuts through that, and while this isn't as fleshed out on the palate as the top Prüm wines can be, there was something about hitting this right at the perfect spot that really made this a winner for me. Producer over vintage.

Weekend of food and wine; 4/13/2017-4/16/2017 (Las Vegas): Nice contrast to the '03 Oster Auslese the day before. This was big, rich, full of petrol/fresh plastic on the nose. Palate was sweet but balanced by very nice tangy acidity, very ripe tropical fruit bordering on dried/candied fruits. Lacked the finesse of the Oster but made up for it with acidity and richness. Paired great with Thai duck panang. If you like the style great mature riesling.

Had the right material of mineral, acid, and sweetness but was undrinkable due to moldy cork taint. Very sad.

Perfect medium yellow but horribly corked. We shed a tear over this one.
