  • 1/6 leftover from last night tasting, served into Zalto Burgundy glass (“Flower” day): Pale ruby with orange tints.

Very fine nose of mature darker red plummy fruits. Floral and liquorice notes. Great spectrum of herbal spices.

Fine acidity and highly mineral. Good persistent finish.

    94 points easy.

  • Bottle breathe for 2 hour, and double decant before serving. Still very young and it takes some time to open up. Nose is a bit reserved with hint of flower. The palate is complex but rather thin. Medium finishing. The taste kept involving in the next 1 hour until we finished up

  • A Grand Cru Burgundy from the largest Grand Cru vineyard in Burgundy, made from biodynamically farmed Pinot Noir grapes. Clos de Vougeot is known to be a very inconsistent vineyard because of its size: some parts of the vineyard are just not up to par with the others.

Developed, pale orange-tawny hue turning to brick towards the rim. Very complex and expressive nose with developed aromas of earthy Pinosity, floral violet tones, some leather, a little bit of cooked carrots, light barnyardy tones, a hint of chocolate and subtle tertiary hints of nuttiness and beef jerky. The wine is medium-bodied, rich and silky on the palate with flavors of ripe cherries, some ripe cranberries, light meaty tones, a little bit of floral violet tones, quite subtle farmhouse funk, a hint of wild strawberry and a touch of savory wood spice. The wine is very gentle and smooth and the palate with the medium-to-moderate acidity and very mellow tannins contributing rather little to the structure, just barely keeping it in balance. The finish is long, complex and noticeably drier than the midpalate with flavors of coarse, spicy Pinosity, earthiness, black cherries, some tart cranberries, a little bit of dried flowers and a hint of sour cherry bitterness.

A rich, nuanced and complex Grand Cru Burgundy that shows a noticeable increase in the depth of flavor compared to the lower-tiered Burgundy reds. However, the wine also comes across as rather mellow, lacking in both structure and intensity - overall it feels like the wine is either now or very soon at its plateau of maturity and based on its already surprisingly complexity, it might not hold on for much further. Of course, it might be that the wine has been kept in not-so-optimal conditions and a better-cellared wine would be much less developed. So all in all, this is an enjoyable and complex Pinot Noir. But worth the 101,30€? No.
