Elegant and balanced, it doesn't have the power one might expect but it's fine Burgundy just the same. Is it classic Mazy-Chambertin? Probably not, but 2008 was not a classic vintage. It's drinking well, with some smoke and spice in the nose, good fruit in the midpalate, and just enough acid in the finish to inspire another sip. Very good Burgundy.

Nose of earth and red fuits. Earth, a little meatiness, licorice, and fresh red fruit. Mineral finish. Medium-light bodied. Medium acid. Medium finish. It's fairly well pulled together already.

Light ruby. Much more soil than red fruit on the nose. However, despite its light weight and significant earth, there is surprising sweetness of fruit in the mouth. This is a light Gevrey Grand Cru that has none of the harsh 2008 acidity and seems to be on a fairly rapid evolutionary path. Looking back at my note from 6 months ago, I should say that this was much more flattering this time.

Light color, lighter rim. All earth on the nose. Thin feel, some red fruit, lean and high acid. Not bad but this needs more flesh, and I am skeptical about whether it will develop this with more time. This is the sort of wine that gives 2008 an angular, ungenerous reputation.
