  • Nose: strawberry, spices, grass
Notes: my second time drinking this wine. The Echezeaux 08 showed a typical nose of good Flagey Echezeaux, the signature strawberry and spices nose is always welcomed and required in a good Echezeaux, however, the wine still shows quite a bit of grassy and herbaceous notes so I would expect this nose to soften in a couple of years. Aside from that I think this is drinking quite nicely now. Gros F&S has always made elegant wines and has continued to demonstrate their ability to make top class Burgundy.

  • Very earthy character, morels, mushrooms and forest floor, with time in the glass blackberry fruit comes through. Good acidity. Quite long. In a good drinking window, but no rush. Good overall, but a rather robust more than elegant rendition of an Echezeaux.

  • (Blind tasting, but presented by me)
Full, generous and rich nose. Immediate, but perhaps not elegant. Forest floor, pine cone, cherry and sauvage character. Nice spiciness and complex minerality.
Very rich and smooth palate. Forest floor, sauvage, dark fruit spectrum. Hints of violets give lift. Still a bit oaky and toasty. Robust edge. Lacks a bit intensity and finish. But also very sumptous. Solid performance. Good now and 10 years forward.

  • Nose was so lovely with ripe red fruit, caramel and some flowers. However the oak on the palate was not fine which really affected the overall quality of the wine. There was some tart fruit and herbal note on the palate. Nose alone was 90. Give this another 6-8 years and see if the oak componenet can integrate.

  • Terroir-istes International - France, Burgundy, Echézeaux & Vougeot (Rodwell House): Very light crimson colour, the perfumed bouquet has an oriental spice, liquorice, dry moorland scrub and sweet red fruit.
A muscular/athletic wine with richness and power filled with soft, sweet red plum, Bing cherry, raspberry, and plenty of spices. Concentrated with gutsy, slightly burly tannins, the overall feel for the wine is svelte, athletic wine that finishes long. A soft cherry lips sweets on the back palate almost slightly salted?
