  • Dark berries on the nose, with ripe raspberries. Some herbs and hints of autumnal forest tones.
    Good balance and taste from beginning to end. Gentle fine tannins. Round acid, not as sharp as many '08. Nice length.

    50 + 5 + 12 + 15 + 8 = 90p.

  • Just lost it's young color. warm ruby red. Nose is full of autumn leaves, herbs, forest floor and fresh berries. Palate has a bit of the '08 acidity, but not at all overpowering. Gentle and soft, yet powerful and intense. A high quality wine with an incredible palate. Really loved it.

  • After WWS, KEVIN & KELLY IN BURGUNDY – FAIVELEY, BOUZEREAU, MERME, REMOISSENET, DUJAC & COMTE LIGER-BELAIR; 11/11/2013-11/14/2013 (Burgundy): Noticeable more floral and roasted than Charmes. Bright fresh red fruits, strong strawberry note, roasted nuts, flower, mocha and mushroom. Medium concentration and nice balance with bright acidity and noticeable tannins. Very enjoyable now but will improve for a couple decades. I prefer the expressive and delicate nature of this wine to the 08 Charmes.

  • Three days tasting notes follow below:

    Tasting day 1-
    We opened it for a nice Sat. night meal (lamb steak). Decanted for about an hour, which greatly helped the taste and color to open. A red-ruby color (got much more beautiful after decanting), well balanced medium body. Long finish (45 plus seconds).
    93-95 with a positive prospect. This wine is ready and enjoyable to drink, but I keep my other two bottles for about five and ten years to come. Hopefully, a friend would open one in the interim so we can enjoy the progress.

    Day 2 of tasting-
    Same stable color, red/ruby, medium legs. Long finish (not as long as the first night, but still 45+ seconds). Had it with just a little piece of Italian chocolate (from Turin, aka- Torino), super good. I am willing to update the grade to 94-96, but I want to taste it again tonight before doing so. hints of oak and well balance. wish I could take a picture of the legs of this one. Beautiful.

    Day 3 of tasting-
    On the color, dark inky/ruby (darker than day 1 and day 2). Still medium legs. The smell and the taste did notably opened up on day 2 and 3. The finish on day 3 is shorter (about 30 seconds the first taste, about 20-25 seconds the second taste, about 30 seconds again the third time this evening). Notes of smoked oak are still in there, though not as strong as day 1 and day 2. The fruitish smell has blossomed, and it is splendid- as good as day 2 or maybe even better.
    Day three tasting took place with lamb-based dinner again (different recipe, of course)

    Overall, this one gives a return of some wines above its price category. Super. As noted on day 2, I think it is worthy of a 94-96 in the long run (already 94 now, and I am tempted to increase it to 95). Very good Burgundy. Maybe in the top 2-3 I had this year. My personal take is (a) If you have more than one bottle- open one now. (b) If you have one bottle, either- get another one and follow (a), or wait and try it in 2015 or later. It is great now, but it will give more, much more in the foresee future.

    Epilogue- Very little wine was left at the end of day three (a quarter of a glass, a little less). It was used as a base for wine based tomato/cheese, and grill based beef. Super would be an understatement. It was an excellent ending for an excellent bottle. Next bottle will be opened in 2016. Early in the drinking window (given that we have only 2 bottles left), but we can't wait. We would have opened another one have we had a case.
