Unanimous winner of blind tasting vs Westvleteren 12 2010 and a fresh St Bernardus 12. Though not as rich and full bodied as the W12, this R10 was the clear winner due to its balance of effervescence and flavor profile. The flavor evolution added richness in its raisin and coconut brandy tones. Any/all heat has dissipated. This 2009 appears to have many years left.

Substantial improvement in the past year. Defeated a Westy 12 of the same vintage in a head to head blind tasting. Syrupy, dark-nut flavors underlie a pleasant mild sweetness.

NOSE: very malty; a touch boozy; hint of something fruity; molasses; extremely pleasant and complex.
BODY: dark brown color; lots of sediment in bottle; medium-full bodied.
TASTE: very boozy --- too much sweetness has aged away; woodsy; the alcohol stands-out a lot --- strong vodka taste; 11.2% alc.; past peak. {cellared by me since release}

A blind tasting of the '09 vs a fresh '13 yielded little difference.
