  • 21 Grams Vertical: 2005-2016. (Home, Portland OR): 21 Grams Vertical: 2005-2016. Delicious wine, but fell just shy of the 2006. Very similar flavor profile to the '06, just lacking some of the verve. Cassis, raspberry, and vanilla flavors stand out the most. This is still drinking very well and has a number of years left.

  • Last tasting of this wine was 2017, time to check in again. At home w/Valerie, paired with Nomad pizza (seems to go well with everything...:). Splash decant, drank over an hour

Dark purple/garnet color, thinning at the edges. Nose showing dark fruits, caramel and light oak. Palate showing redcurrant, blueberry/blackberry, currants, plums, mulberry. Secondary notes of red fruits and baking spice. Smooth texture, medium weight, medium/long finish.

Was good out of the bottle, showed better at 20-30 minutes in so a short decant is advisable. In a great spot right now, texture and mouthfeel are note able, very polished and smooth. Less fruit forward than in its youth (from memory). No need to wait...

  • Been a while since I visited this wine, some of the comments had me thinking it may have faded. Batch bought directly at release. Decanted for about 45 minutes, drank over 2 hours.

Excerpt from prior notes: "Nose is oak, dark fruits, cedar, aged cheese. Blackberry pie, black currants, savory notes. Long, nuanced finish..."

Now...Dark garnet color, mild separation. Nose of currants, plum, oak and spice. Palate of plums, red currant, blackberry, spiced fruit, mulberry. A lot going on here. Exotic spice and red fruits tough the mid palate. Medium weight, medium/long finish.

This is in a very good spot right now, settled and integrated since last bottle (from memory). Fruits are expressive and nicely aged, oak is integrated, tannins sweetened and resolved...all good. The decant is a must - learned that from prior bottle - this needs a little time to show, really great once it opens. Hard to say how long this drinks from here, would say it holds at this level for another 5 years, but why wait...

  • This was delicious and probably my top wine of this new year. Dark and ripe showing only a little age on the rim. Nose is very pure with lots of blackcurrant and berry fruit. Palate is so smooth, ripe but well balanced, blackcurrant and black cherry fruit, nice sweetness and a really long fine finish. Excellent wine. Pairing with some grilled lamb chops and Italian style white beans was fantastic. Not sure this has that much upside, if I had another bottle (I don't) I would be drinking soonish.

  • Bright fruit is gone, extremely heavy with raisin flavors. Almost everything gone 2 hours after opening without decanting. Drink now or forever hold your piece.

(21 Grams) UPDATE: Holiday Hours Garagiste is open for normal hours today and tomorrow (11-3) – we are closed on Sunday and Monday in observance of the holiday. Have a great weekend everyone! - Jon Rimmerman *********************** Waters Dear Friends, Waters is on a roll...but we already knew that. One of their wines was just rated #4 in the state by Seattle Met (including Quilceda et al) and their northern style has struck a chord with many aficionados tired of extreme domestic winemaking or “pillow” winemaking that renders a wine somewhere between Fluff and a Jolly Rancher. At Waters you have none of that. What you do have is wine that tastes like wine – lightly vinified with a deft and caring touch that opens and morphs with time and air rather than falls apart due to an over-indulgence in technology and additions. While certainly no shrinking violets, despite their broad size, all of the Waters wines have a regal sense to them that stresses fruit and harmony first and impact second. With the 2007 Cabernet, that philosophy delivers a quasi-exotic wine with a certain domestic restraint that still coats the plate with a delineated ripeness and confident swagger – a Washington smoking jacket swagger if you will. Instead of caramel as the first impression, the taster is greeted by a blast of pure red berry fruit and a background ration of tannin, spice and silky grit – an oxymoron perhaps but not in this wine. After 4-6 hours of air, the flavors deepen and expand with currant, plum and decided touch of citrus that adds an admirable lift to this full-toned wine – perfect as an accompaniment to my grilled NY strip. In a world of ever increasing Cabernet prices, this small production wine (350+ cases) will be a welcome addition to any cellar as it delivers an experience deserving of its tariff and then some: http://waterswinery.com/wines/2007_columbia_valley_cabernet-sauvignon As far as the the Twenty-One Grams is concerned, the wine has become one of the toughest to obtain in Washington - as close to a “cult” wine as we have. A collaboration between Waters and Gramercy Cellars with only 100 or so cases produced, the 2007 version is, well, from 2007 and it’s already completely sold out at the winery (only a few 6-packs go to retail in the US). From mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, I would have no problem putting this wine up against some of the behemoths from Napa but it still shows a northern restraint that sets Washington’s terroir and overall climate apart from the Golden State. A luxurious experience that combines a certain sense of old and new, this wine slathers the palate with simply delicious and nearly black Cabernet-based fruit with pockets and nuances that need to be experienced rather than written about. A wine that will wow your dinner guests, regardless of predilection. From the winery: “The object of 21 Grams is exquisite balance, long length, intensity and complexity - the true components of quality. Firm acidity and moderate alcohol are the prime directives for our wines, favoring elegance over brute power.” Enough said. Both wines are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED as forward-thinking, soulful examples that stress vibrancy and purity over showmanship. (21 Grams Red Wine Columbia Valley) Nose is locked up pretty tightly at the moment but shows light herbal notes, licorice, freshly ground cranberries, pencil shavings, and very light earth aromas. Pretty fruit flavors shine through on an elegantly structured palate. Give two years. 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 2% Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot. Cold Creek, Pepper Bridge, Portteus, Seven Hills, Nostra Terra, and Sagemoor vineyards. 100 cases produced.

(Gramercy Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Walla Walla Valley) A beautiful minerality on this big, chewy wine. Beautifully pure fruit and a long finish. A spectacular wine. Gramercy estate and Pepper Bridge vineyards.
