A more mature medium ruby color with a ton of particulate debris. Cherries, herbs (thyme and sage). Back raspberries, leather and violets. The palate was medium full bodied with good balacne. I think maybe too shook up to show as well as it could? I liked it a lot. 92 pts. My 8th place. Group's 9th place.
The "Not Lori" Smith and Wollensky Dinner (Chicago, IL): Agred brown and thin in appearance. A somewhat maderized nose of balsamic and earth. Palate is thin and maderized. Could have been flawed, but this bottle was definitely disappointing. Merits some points for picking up weight and interesting caramel notes after time in the glass.
France Trip Part 1 - Châteauneuf-du-Pape; 6/16/2006-6/17/2006: Same bottle as Vinsanity. We opened this during a long outdoor dinner at our B&B, the Chateau Talaud, in Loriol-du-Comtat. This was a fabulous wine, with still-youthful black fruit and wonderful tobacco/leather secondary characteristics that have blossomed with bottle age. Great balance and structure; long finish.
