Retail $50. Heavy Bottle. I popped the first bottle about three weeks ago for a tasting at our house and while it was certainly a bit tired, there was still plenty of life left. Golden again in color with a rich, opulent nose of lemon curd, white flower, toasted almond, and honeyed apricot. The palate? Yowza: rich, decadent, opulent, and weighty. Whoa. The fruit is there, but it is wrapped up in a rich, nutty, honeyed mélange of intensity. Whoa. This is not for the casual Chardonnay consumer, this is a big, big girl and in my opinion, big is beautiful.
Retail $50. Heavy Bottle. Golden in the glass with hazelnut, golden delicious apple, caramel, and, well, goodness. Sure, there is a but of oxidation, but holy cow is this good. Baked apple, lemon rind, toasty bread--all there in spades on the nose and the palate. Close to a whoa. Once paired with the seafood risotto? It was close to another level. This aged Chard is not for everyone, but those who like their wine with a touch (or ten) of age on them? Whoa, Nellie, particularly with food.
This wine was so fresh. The color was bright yellow with only hints of gold. The nose was complex, deep and shifting. All the elements were in place with nothing overwhelming its friends. Yogurt, lemon, apple, lychee, almond, delicatly grilled sage and white peach played off of each other effortlessly. The palate had nice acidity that balanced the undeniable yet poised richness that is Beringer PR Chardonnay. The finish is long, mouth watering, and simply delicious.

Wine is done. Stick a fork in it. Opened two separate bottles within a 3-day span and identical observations. Has a brownish cognac color and taste is still somewhat acidic but with a gasoline/diesel aftertaste (yes, I have accidentally tasted both before). Wonder what it was like 5-6 years ago. I get some idea from past postings. I see this wine being marketed and sold even now - obviously some suppliers looking to release inventory.

(Beringer Private Reserve Chardonnay) #2; COLOR-golden; NOSE-a little oak; nice fruit; green apple; very creamy; vanilla coming through; a little butter and butterscotch; PALATE-some serious acidity on the back-end; a little alcohol coming through; some butter coming through; like apples with a little too much Movie theatre butter on top; good crispness, but not enough acid to overcome the gloopy type fruit; but not the worst thing in the world; there's some guava; lots of butterscotch and some tropical fruits; not horribly over-the-top; a little oaked for me, but a solid Chardonnay; can last 5-7 years; this shows some promise; if you like oak and butter, you'll like this quite a bit; RP-94; GV-90

Totally agree with Bechi & Hercules. I wasted the earlier bottles - this is the first I enjoyed.
