  • DAWGS Offline - August 19, 2006 (just a skosh's house in Dallas, TX): WIMLNR,NOWA,WS88

Tasted August 19, 2006 at an offline. Opened and served immediately in a Spiegelau Authentis Magnum glass. Light plum color in the glass, definitely bricking evident. Alcoholic nose. Thin flavor of raspberry. Definitely over the hill. Therefore no rating or value recommendation.

  • Skosh OL: From a large tasting. Minimal notes. Many people at the tasting thought this was past its prime--maybe, but very enjoyable. 87-90

  • This was a tag-along from a recent auction purchase. I sincerely thought it would be dead. However, it appears to have been perfectly stored. I was frankly shocked at the quality of this bottle. Deep red with a little browning, this had a very pleasant nose of leather and earth. The palate was absolutely fantastic - a nice balance of fruit and tannin with a finish that was superbly long. This seriously rivaled the '89 Cailloux I had last night. Really, it was that good.

  • I'm amazed. This was a tag-along from an auction purchase of Cailloux and Beaucastel - I thought I'd be pouring this down the drain. I could tell from the bottle that this was perfectly cellared. I suspect the wine was filtered as there was virtually no sediment in the bottle. Initially, the nose was all horse, eventually it turned to a complex array of stable aromas, mushroom, earth and sweet black fruits. Amazingly it was at its best after an hour in the decanter. A pleasant surprise indeed. Glad I have four more bottles. Oh yeah... drink now! :)
