In the bouquet gooseberry and green apples. On the palate tight and focused with minerals, dry, a lot of acidity, grapefruits including the bitterness and almonds. I have the impression this is made of unripe fruits. Nevertheless a clean wine and ok if you like the acidity and bitterness. My score is 85 – 86.
Dry German Riesling (German Wine Society - Washington, DC): Very reticent on the nose, and it didn't open up much with time. Aromas of lemon, lanolin and white tea. The palate is soft, quite weak actually. The green melon flavors taste musky and old. A bit of apricot and nut flavors came out, but there's also this strange green tree bark flavor. It's not well-spoken enough to be intellectually stimulating.
Very austere Riesling with striking minerality and acidity. There is very little fruit in the bouquet, which is rather defined by the spiciness and saltiness of slate and limestone. Great terroir-wine and definitely a sure-shot for Riesling fans. This wine is a typical Philippi-wine!
Light green yellow. Young fruit of sitrus and apricot on the nose. Very fresh and fruity. Good concentration . Pure and nice. Somewhat closed. Should probably been decanted. Tight and long finish. Very good Riesling. Keep for a couple of years more at least.
