  • Guigal Hermitage blanc 2007-2009 (Winegate): Clear, med gold color.
The nose is clean, med/med+, oaky nose with ripe stone fruit, tropical fruit, tin pineapple and apricot syrup, hint of smoke, almond, chestnut, developing.
The wine is dry, med+ to full body, med+ intensity, med acidity, med alcohol (13.50%), dense, ripe apricot and pineapple, bitter almond, chestnut and mango, tropical fruit in the med+ to long finish.
Very good quality, premium price, drinking now but could hold

  • APPEARANCE: clear; deep gold; medium legs & tears
NOSE: clean; medium intensity; flavour characteristics: floral(buttercup, linden), green apple, stone fruit (peach), mango; developing
PALATE: dry; high acidity; medium+ body; medium+ alcohol; long finish; pronounced flavour intensity; flavour characteristics: as per nose: lemon, lime, green apple, pear, stone fruit (peach), mango
READINESS FOR DRINKING: Can drink now, but has potential for further ageing
FURTHER REMARKS: well made Viognier, nice structure and balance and potential for ageing. Maybe lacks a bit of complexity.

  • Light yellow; fat in the attack but some (too much?) acidity and a little sourness, then back to a nice smooth lingering aftertaste, lifting the performance.
