Color: black-as-midnight core -> dense magenta rim. Lovely bouquet of boysenberries, raspberries, black cherries and a touch of licorice. Palate follows what I have come to think of as the Booker "house" style: lush, plush, intense and accessible. Berry (see nose) palate with black cherries again and a bit of underbrush. Good acidity with still notable tannins though they're light, fine and reasonably well-integrated. Finish is long with a note of alcoholic burn at the end (15.9%). It's quaffable, delicious, far too easy to drink and not really all that complex for a 10 year old Syrah. Seems to be more puppy-like than mature to my mind though I'm really not sure any further complexity is forthcoming. Enjoy now for its continuing youthful exuberance . . . .

Short decant which was enough. Integrated most of the wood after about a half hour. Good up front but the mark of the experience was a bit of a lack of depth and length. Especially compared to the '06 l'Aventure Estate Cuvée I had last year... an apt comparison of the same varietals from an adjacent vineyard. I have higher hopes for my other Bookers.

What a difference a year makes. Popped and poured. It is now well integrated with black cherry and au jus dominating. Full bodied, good finish, smooth tannins. Not sure what will happen from here but will wait for a while to see.

Tasted an hour after decanting. Big and seductive nose of ripe fruit, mineral, tar and anise. Same mix on the palate. Blackberry and black raspberry fruit. This is a lush and powerful wine. It is also smooth and delicious. Time has been kind here, not so much to add complexity as to allow integration and mellowing. Excellent.

Birthday bottle. Wife loved it too. And Braves beat Giants 9-0. Who could ask for more? Great night!
