Deep red for a Pinot. Berry and earthy aromas. Tasting starts with spicy berries and gives way to plum, pear and oak. Medium body with a long finish, slightly too acidic at the finish. Held up pretty well, considering.

Opening Some Older Red Wine Treasures at Chateau Abee, Columbia, SC 7/20/2013 (Chateau Abee, Bakersfield Road, Columbia, SC): A very solid Anderson Valley type Pinot that rewarded us for laying it down for a few years. The color is very dark for a Pinot, still only minimal if any browning at the rim. One of those wines so balanced, it shows a hint of sweetness, even though totally dry. There is a nice combination of cool climate crisp spiciness, with totally ripe fruit. Has some, but not a big bunch of those typical Pinot rustic, earthy, barnyard flavors. The fruit is quick hitting, spicy strawberry and red raspberry first, but some blackberry next. Still quite tannic. Could easily age a few more years. The finish is strawberry preserves with some vanilla and spicy tannins.

Pnp through the vinturi, left it for 1/2 hour. In the glass: Deep garnet, slight brown tint, fat legs. On the those: Hot cherries, dark fruit, warm spice, whiff of tea leaves & menthol. In the mouth: med/full mouth feel, good concentration of hot cherries, spice, tannins are bedded in nicely, nice finish. A little heat pokes through, but this one is delish! The scent is intense. This bottle won't last too long tonight. Must see if there is more to be had!

Great with cheese. Got better with air.
