Credit this wine with keeping until now, 2014.10.5. The Nony family says as much on the label - this wine, "has the capacity to age beautifully." The taste and flavor, though, are underwhelming, as opposed to overwhelming. Flat fruits, licorice, pepper, with tannin remnants. A full mouth of flavor - from front to back, with something missing in the middle. 2003 was a difficult weather year, with record heat waves in Paris and across Europe. Let's give Chateau Caronne Ste. Gemme and the Nony family a break and some credit for producing quaffable wine, except that subsequent vintages rate 85 - 87, with an occasional 88. These subsequent vintages seem like lost opportunities. This is Haut-Medoc, is it not?.

A little harsh, a lot of tobacco and cedar, black fruit good but slightly muted. Good alcohol level, not at all burning. Tannins not too chewy. Very pleasant, moreish and if anything better on day 2.

Dry, straightforward, predominantly earth and mineral with mild sweetness in the finish.

Getting better with time. Needs another year or two.

Rounding out a bit, may improve with a couple more years.
