Spannend.

Fantastisch!

bottle neck broke on cork removal but cork and wine seemed intact. drinks way older than it should, lovely nose reminding me of a nicely aged rioja - stewed fruit and anise. palate full bodied, slightly over-oaked, and some heat on the finish. seems slightly out of balance and awkward on the palate. enjoyable but would not but again.

Young, in terms of structure, very dense surface, polished, no jam, opens up with time in glass. I feared it would be very ripe in its 11th year, regarding the very the high alcohol content they normally get, but it seems this one has got it all: balance, potencial for cellaring and a very austere but enchanting fruit. Actually this is labeled "vino de Mesa" because back then the rules of the consejo regulador didn't allow wines with such high alcohol degrees. Later this was changed so the current vintages are labeled D.O. Yecla.
