  • Good, but not as good as I expected. I liked some of the other St. Francis wines better

  • 6 months an an aerator has improved this wine. It is definitely a bit closed. i will wait to drink the rest.

This wine is an interesting blend. a little lighter and thinner than the blend suggests. Great flavor, balanced alcohol and medium tannins.

  • Very interesting wine, not as fruity as most wine that comes from Sonoma, but with a lot of potential, I think, to develop into something unusual and complex. Will wait awhile to open my other bottles, however--

  • Not as good as expected. A little thin on flavors. i expected something a little bolder. I will wait and see how the other bottles turn out. A good but not great wine so far.

  • Got this bottle from winestilsoldout.com for $25 and took over to mom/dad's house for Father's Day dinner (grilled steaks, veggies, and corn-on-the-cob).
I was really looking forward to trying this wine. I get e-mails all day from WTSO.com and only buy wines from them once or twice a year. When I got the e-mail for this wine, I did some light research and this seemed like it could be a real winner/bargain. This is a Bordeaux blend (but not your typical Bordeaux blend: 49% Petite Verdot, 43% Malbec, and 9% Merlot) that St. Francis lists on their website for $60/bottle. WTSO said the "regular" price was $60 but half the time their listed "regular" price is ridiculously over-stated. Since St. Francis' website listed the wine for $60 and I found the blend to be very intriguing, I had to give this one a try and bought three bottles at $24.99 with free shipping.
Sadly, this wine isn't anywhere NEAR worth $60/bottle (much less $25).
The nose suggests a wine that will taste rich and creamy, along with an earthy spiciness.
Sho' 'nuff, this wine IS rich and creamy! There's also a shovel of damp soil, a basket of black fruit (plums and blackberries), and a few pinches of spices (black pepper and sage) in the mix as well. The wine has a smooth, well-balanced finish but lacks real depth and complexity. The fruits and spices just shimmer across the surface and quickly disappear, where a quality wine's flavors penetrate the palate deeply and linger for a good, long while.
Perhaps this wine is still too young? Should we have decanted this bottle for an hour or two? Maybe our expectations were simply way too high? Not quite sure where to lay the blame, but this wine was simply flat as a pancake. We'll decant the next bottle for an hour or more and see if helps any.
