  • Dark purple color. Decanted over 3 hours, tasting at hourly intervals. Nose took a little time to open up, but when it did reveal itself, it was fantastic. Ripe dark fruit, violet, smoke, and chocolate. Dense and concentrated, with a silkiness on the palate. Firm, structured tannins. Long and persistent finish. Given the current prices of the 2009 vintage, this Pape Clement may turn out to be a relative bargain. This is a wine to follow, as it should become a force in the upcoming decade.

  • Thrilling rich explosive nose of Asian spice , espresso, cocoa and violets. Highly perfumed. Dark rich ripe fruit, oak evident but built to last. Fantastic and excellent value. Deeper and softer after a 2 hr decant but also good on first pop.

  • Classy and elegant with a gorgeous nose which will make the Bordeaux lover swoon. The 2009 Pape Clement opens up with a balanced and utterly gorgeous nose of ripe, dark red fruits, dusty floral tones, minerals and undergrowth. On the palate, it’s youthful, with decades of development in store, yet still shows elegance with a delightful display of dark red fruits, plum, espresso and earth tones. It clenches the palate on the finish, showing off its formidable structure, yet this is a joy to drink.

  • The wine looks inky colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like black currant (cassis), cherry and cherry. It tastes like blackberry. The body is full. The wine has polished texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity. Excellent!!!

(Chateau Pape-Clément (Pessac-Léognan)) A really appealing nose here, with a layer of honeyed oak (this is Pape-Clément, after all) but it seems well matched by a reserved but evident layer of fruit. Attractive, balanced, a touch creamy but not with the force that you can sometimes find from this château. There is an elegant edge to the creamy fruit, and a lovely backbone of ripe tannins behind it as well. Overall it has more harmony than many other wines on show here today. A delicious style, well structured in the finish, but in a reserved, grainy fashion rather than anything more robust. An excellent result.

(Chateau Pape-Clément Pessac-Léognan) This is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. The wine has a dark, purple-black core with good concentration right out to the rim. The nose is very dense and yet perfumed, full of squashed cherries, warm tar, rose petals and more. No shortage of depth here. Yet the palate has an elegantly defined cool and rather direct style on the palate, showing an impressive definition. The tannins are moving from cottony to almost silky here, although that is not to say they take a back seat, and there is also a great concentration of fruit presented in very lush style. Supple, with a very polished finish, this is a sample which has great promise.
