  • A deep, settled purple with deep black fruit flavors, soft mouthfeel and great integration from the 14 months it spent in oak. The 2005 Bordeaux vintage was one of the most fantastic years on record. A very warm summer and near drought conditions created perfectly ripened, small, tightly bunched berries with concentrated flavors and hard skins rich in tannin. There will not be any traces of leafy green flavors in wines from this vintage. Château La Croix de Moines (?The Monk?s Cross?) is located north-east of the town of Libourne in the heart of the Lalande de Pomerol appellation. Since 1976 it has been owned by Jean-Louis Trocard whose family has owned vineyards in Bordeaux since the XVIth century. The property consists of 8 hectares of vineyards planted with 80% Merlot,10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. The vineyards are ideally sited and lie on deep gravelly topsoil with iron pan in the subsoil. The grapes are hand-harvested and the wines are matured in oak barrels for 14 months. This is one of the best properties in the Lalande de Pomerol appellation and the wines are some of the best value to be found in Bordeaux today.
