  • We don't often see 100% Roussanne. Usually a blending grape in the Old World, thought it might be nice to try one from America. We were rewarded by some quite unique flavors and aromas. We always trust the work of Jed Steele, and his family. So this is not great wine, but is more than OK. The color was scary how close to brown it was, and exposed the possibility this may be bad bottle. The nose rescued that thought. There is kind of a fresh cracked walnut, or maybe hazelnut aroma, with some herbal, brown spice with the pear and tropical fruit. This was barrel fermented, which imparts some of that vanilla, and oak richness, which results in a very smooth and rounded wine. The fruit is very soft and easy on the palate. Just enough acid to keep things interesting. Very well integrated. Possibly already slightly past its prime. Oily, nutty, herbal pear on the finish. Not for everyone, but still a credible effort.
