Nielle's dad's birthday. Popped and poured after 20 minutes.
Still in great shape, echoing the last review from January 2022. Mint, dried mushrooms, must (though noting indicating TCA), old leather on the nose. Quite tertiary, but still showing signs of life. Medium + intensity of aromas. The palate is where things really come alive. It adds flavors of ripe red currants, ripe red cherries, ripe raspberries and smoked meat. It keeps the mint and old leather. Almost tastes like old books/walking through a library. But wow, impressive to taste this much fruit on a 53 year old wine. The finish shows quite intense wet stone and salt flavors. Overall, intensity of flavors is high.
Medium body with amazing (for the age) medium + acid and low - but not no - tannins. Overall, it's very impressive how alive this wine is. It reminded the birthday boy, a professional chef, of older vintages of Chateau Margaux. The difference is, I can actually afford this wine...
Paired with beef bourguignon; but old left bank Bordeaux like this can go with just about anything within reason.

What a nice surprise. Bought this years ago and opened it to send off a friend. This wine was in great shape - a little thin but very tasty with classic left bank notes. Delicious on nose and palate.

Tried at a blind tasting with group that nearly always tastes burgundies. And damn, if this thing didn't have just the right maturity, softness and barnyardiness to keep us thinking that's what it was. Big rich flavors too. I did write "freak show" as my first impression, that such an obviously mature wine could have so much going on. Oddly, it was only after we were blown away that it was a Bord did I note and appreciate the cedar and tobacco qualities. and some beneficial BRETT

Acceptable, but I really didn't appreciate the qualities others have seen - good fill, color: certainly not flawed - just a mildly pleasant wine with really no excitement
