Another outstanding bottle of this. Consistent with previous experiences - still very youthful and fresh with green apple and lime fruit up front, turning more saline and stony on the back end, and so incredibly light and precise. The acidity here is remarkably intense, and it's hard to put the level of sheer refreshment here into words. Fantastic Kabinett.
Really nice right out of the gate with sizzling lime, slate, apples, and some brown cumin spice. Palate starts excellent as well with similar flavors - really great acidic and great cut. There are some odd flavors and textures in the finish that go along with the lime and minerals - a little stinky, wet cardboard. This was still good as it warmed up but not as good. Showed more peach and apple, but lost some of its razor sharpness. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 4.5/6, Finish - 4/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 14.5/20.
First of six, this is young and has potential. Bright and laden with all the right ingredients, it certainly is glycerin imbued, serene and complex, and poised to really shine, but is a bit hesitant now. As TT says, "thick, lovely melancholy." Maybe this could use more bite, but I like this producer and especially the phenomenal vineyard, so we'll see. Glad I checked in, just a little too early. Next bottle - three years would be about right. Peak 2017 to 2029? 90pts now, with upside.
This is medium yellow, even gold-ish. Opened 2 days ago. Ripe nose of red apple, herbal-cumin-grass-spicy, powdered slate at end. Palate is very ripe and soft - this doesn't seem to have much energy. I know it has been open 2 days, but it seemed like that right after opening as well. Enters soft with ripe red apple and honey, the cumin-spice-herbal comes out in the middle as do some minerals and soft lime citrus. Finishes gentle but pretty with all the flavors showing somewhat. This is pretty and refined, but not quite zingy enough for me - but then a lot of 08's seem to be like that IMO. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 4/6, Finish - 4.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 14.5/20.
