Still in great shape. Dark color, rich fruit (plums, blackberries), tobacco, leather, spices - complex and hard to describe. Luscious. Tried this several years ago and it is even better now.

I had no idea that I still had this. Visually, you would never guess that this is an 11 year old entry-level wine, outside of some ever so slight bricking on the rim. Very modern styled; lots of extraction, lots of oak & lots of alcohol. On the nose, you immediately know what you're in for; jammy currants, plums & a little blueberry, with strong vanilla aromas, cedar, spice and a hefty dose of alcohol. On the palate this is almost Port-like and pretty monolithic. Nearly prune-like fruits, big oak notes and bitter chocolate on the finish. Outside of the integrated tannins, you would have no clue about the age on this, with pretty much zero tertiary notes. I'm sure that this is past its prime, but I think this must have been a real bruiser in whatever prime it had. Good value for fans of big oaky wines.
A week later there was a half bottle or so that was under cork from a Coravin and it was much better. Not great, but greatly improved and generally better integrated and mellowed. 87-88ish.
