94-97 pts
Probably a bit closed, but still very pure red berry fruit, Läkerol, licorice root and cherries on the nose. Medium body, very elegant taste profile. Incredibly pure with a very long lingering finish carried by unreleased deep fruit. Great potential, but certainly not for the novice to appreciate, as it is very understated and refined.
In Beaune. Decanted for roughly an hour before trying and then drank over another 2 hours or so. A ripe, but not over ripe nose of red, black and blue berry fruits. Crushed rocks and some savory spice and herb elements. A rich and well textured palate that showed off much of the same fruit, earth, and spice flavors. Very giving, but you are able to see the immense structure the wine has. Very long finish with a great deal of power. Great to try so young and I look forward to trying it again when it gains more maturity.
Cellar Tasting with Christophe Roumier (Chambolle Musigny): Barrel tasting at Domaine. Best young Bonnes Mares I have ever had. Very subtle to start - wild strawberry, red cherry with a hint of cocoa. Then the flavors just explode in your mouth, showing powerful fruit, lots of pepper and spice. Very powerful, long finish.
