Another older bottle picked up at auction. Based on other wines from this lot, I'm guessing the disgorgement was 2005-2008.
Right out of the gate it was sharp and acidic. However, that calmed down after 30 min, and then it was firing on all cylinders. It had a really nice creamy texture that balanced out the high acidity. Seemed to be a bigger, richer Chardonnay. Great showing and a big surprise.
2009 base. Great wine, it surpasses my expectations every time. Very pale yellow color. The nose is a little limited and maybe shows a little marzipan but is fresh and bright. This wine is all about it's nervy tension of lemon, mineral and acidity. Sharp and refreshing, strong mineral mid palate, long lemony mineral finish. Some may find it too severe or austere but thats what I like about it, its unapologetic expression of minerality, no tricks or polish to cover it up. Maybe not as complex as some would like but it's such a pure expression of Mesnil sur Oger Chardonnay that it makes up for it. I don't think this wine goes through malolactic fermentation which adds to its character. In a great place now but there's now rush, seems as fresh as the first bottles I opened 4-5 years ago, no signs of oxidization. This could go another 10 years, we'll see - impressive for a NV wine from a small grower producer.

2009 base: Great in the sunshine before dinner. I had a small drinks for 25 people and a dozen of these evaporated PDQ. Nice pure white fruits, much more fruit intensity than the grand marques - even the packaging is excellent. How on earth do these guys not have a good UK importer?! [PS: the US importer seemingly has tried these and realised how good they are, since the US pricing is about double the French pricing]

I very much liked this. A little high-pitched, shrilll, acidic, and screechy, but things settled down a bit with some time. Like young sparking dry German riesling. Yellow and white orchard fruit, striking minerality, long on the midpalate and finish. This is a young one -- probably a bit more enjoyable and layered in a year or two.

Champagne: vegetal/minerale, pietra focaia, ricorda uno chablis, molti fiori. Acidità limonosa appena contrastata dal poco zucchero della liquer. Mi piace, marino, tagliente, anice.

(NV Pehu Simonet Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut) Very light green-tinged yellow color with abundant, steady, tiny bubbles; yeasty, light white chocolate, chalk, tart pear nose; tasty, poised, tart pear, yeasty, mineral palate; medium-plus finish (all 2009, all Mesnil; disgorged Nov. 2012) 92+ points
(NV Pehu Simonet Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut) Very light yellow color with abundant mousse; appealing, ripe pear, apple nose; tart apple, tart pear palate; medium-plus finish
(NV Pehu Simonet Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut) Very light yellow color with few medium-sized bubbles; chalk, tart pear nose; chalk, tart pear, mineral palate; medium-plus finish 89+ points
(NV Pehu-Simonet Blanc de Blancs Brut) ($78.00) 2008. 100% Mesnil, disgorged 12/10, no malo. These ‘08s are like somewhat lighter, more limpid and lambent brothers of the ‘02s. This is cool “slope” wine (his parcels are on the hill) seeming lighter than the ’07 (which makes no sense) until the very adamant finish. Still recovering from disgorgement, I think.
