  • Eðalklúbbur, vínsmakk #1 vor 2015 (Marbakkabraut 12): Síðasta flaskan í hefðbundnu smakki. Svipað á litinn og 6. flaskan. Smá ryð komið í jaðra. Í nefi rauð ber, blóðlykt! Í munni sýru og tannínríkt. Rauð ber, anísbrjóstsykur, krydd, kanill og vanilla. Vín í mjög góðu jafnvægi.
    Sumum fannst þetta vín vera besta vín kvöldsins. Fyrir minn smekk hafði þó 6. vínið (Guigal CdP 2009) vinninginn. Meiri kraftur hér en hitt vínið fágaðra. Þetta vín er engu að síður mjög gott. Ég væri alveg til í að smakka 2009 eða 10 árganginn af þessu víni, fyrst 2008 var svona góður.

  • Medium ruby in appearance. Medium intensity on the nose of black and red fruits ( strawberry, red cherry) and still developing. Palate is well balanced with medium levels of acidity and alcohol, well-integrated soft tannins and the same red and black fruits, spicyness and cedar from the oak. Overall quality is very good with potential for further ageing

  • Rather muted but classic northern Rhone nose. It's not exactly a compliment to suggest that the palate is a perfect complement to this acceptable but sightly underwhelming first impression. It's not lean but I can't help yearning for something more Rubenesque in this case. All one is left with soon after swallowing is a slight pepperiness on the tip of the tongue. The overall sensation is fleeting rather than ethereal. My wife enjoyed it for its lack of alcohol and punch which could be construed as elegance. I can't help thinking that a Guigal Cote du Rhone from a better vintage would have been just as satisfying for us both.

  • Just tasted a 2008 E. Guigal Brune et Blonde from Côte-Rôtie. Dark purple color turning violet at the rim with a nose that first appeared "corked." or tainted with TCA, but later on turned to smoke and cedar with dark berry nuances. The palate is perky with dancing acidity with flavors of black currant, plum, vanilla, tobacco, and peppery spice. Finishes long, lifted and zesty with hints of oak and dried thyme. This is good stuff, especially for the vintage. It can even stand on its own with no food pairing. Well-balanced, interesting, and aptly complex. Drink now until 2023.
