Deep, inky red, opaque up to the rim, where there's a thin ring of ruby. Nose of cassis and oak. More of the same in the mouth, which opens up to a bit of mint as the wine sits in the glass. The finish is cedary oak, with good balance and a very long finish.
I really wanted to like this more than I did; it's just not wowing me, given the rarity (only 2100 bottles produced), pedigree (I love the wines from Martin Ray -- this is easily as good as their other appellation cabs, but that's it) and price point. It's good, but I'd rather have 2 bottles of the Diamond Mountain cab for roughly the same price. Drink through 2014.
